Most Fridays from now on will be Cardigan Fridays on The Daily Corgi! So you’ll be seeing more of these handsome”tailed” Corgis, as they are fabbity-do and I think they merit their own spotlight.
What? You’ve NEVER heard of a Cardigan Welsh Corgi?
You may have seen one and not have recognized it. They share some of the same characteristics as Pembroke Welsh Corgis, but Cardigan Welsh Corgis are actually a separate breed in their own right.
Soon I’ll be bringing in a knowledgeable friend who has been breeding Cardigans for a long time, for a permanent “Cardigans 101” feature and expert occasional “Cardigan Q & A” posts. She knows her stuff and has a good heart for the dogs.
Without further adieu, Miss Zelda Blue …
Meet Zelda Blue of California. Nothing less than her spectacular-ness would do for the debut of what will be a regular fun feature. She’s a little bit of a cheese ball, but I love that. Cheesin” is welcome here, any day of the week! Cheesin’ suits me fine.
Zelda’s owner, Nancy Nygaard, has been spoiling me with photos of Zelda and her “siblings” for a few years now. (I know, my job tough job right?) She’s a peach and I’ve never seen a bad photo of her Corgis. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
Zelda is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi with distinctive markings who enjoys her runabouts in the show ring. Her latest wins include Winners Bitch, OH, and Best of Breed at the Lost Coast AKC show in Ferndale California over the July 4th weekend. Nancy is proud of her girl!
“Zelda is the happiest Corgi I have ever owned” Nancy enthuses. “She wakes up happy goes to sleep at bedtime happy. I just love her to the moon and back”.
With her breeder Steve Porter. When he whistles “Whistle While You Work”, it takes Zelda right back to her puppy days.
He has a special place in all his dogs’ hearts.
Hello, I’m Zelda. Yes, I can read lips. What’s for lunch?
Snoopervising, as Corgis will do.
It’s good to be ZELDA BLUE!
