BREAKING NEWS: Charlie’s Campaign has reached goal! Thank you to everybody who gave and made a difference in his life — and that of his new family!
Today’s Adoptable is a bit of a twist on the usual format — with a happy ending in progress — as Corgi mix pup Charlie is already adopted but needs our help to get him flown to his new home in Oregon.
His story is worth a read, and the photos, well … who can resist a sweet face like THAT?!
Four month-old Charlie ended up in the shelter with lacerations to his face and ears after being attacked by another dog. Nothing severe enough that it wouldn’t heal, but as so often happens, the current system did not have the resources necessary to rehabilitate and save him. (Please SUPPORT RESCUE, and ADVOCATE for CHANGE where you can! These deserving animals depend on us.)
Plucky little Charlie (that’s him above right, smiling big) was rescued at the last possible minute by dedicated rescue folks who showed up at the city shelter and saved him after he had already been sedated for euthanasia.
After being spared, this spunky sweetie has spent the last few months in foster care with Jessica H. (of San Antonio Pets Alive) and his foster siblings, enjoying being a baby and exploring his little world. In the meanwhile, a wonderful, loving family in Beaverton, Oregon has committed to adopting him.
They had planned on footing all the costs for his trip and supplies for the journey, but were put in an extremely tight spot when the mother of Charlie’s new “Daddy” had a severe stroke. Charlie’s new would-be parents left work to be at her side in the hospital; a week and-a-half later they learned she was in a brain-dead state and not expected to recover. After gathering the family from near and far, the decision was made to remove their beloved from life support.
Ya gotta have friends … and rawhide, and toys!
Life sure is tough sometimes. Oh boy, isn’t that an understatement? This is a family who could use the presence of a wonderful dog like Charlie as they wrestle with the loss of someone so dear. His simple, unconditional offering of love will help see them through the road ahead … have you ever been there and found yourself being comforted and healed by an animal?
I know I have. It is a gift beyond measure.
So Charlie’s new family needs our help to bring him home. They’re paying funeral expenses, they’ve lost pay from work absences, and the money they’d saved for Charlie’s flight to Oregon is no longer there. They’re able to care for him, but getting him there is where WE come in! We can donate a little (or a lot, if you’ve found a $20 in your laundry 🙂 to ensure their newest family member has the airfare and the money needed to meet the flight requirements. If you’d like to talk with Charlie’s foster Mom for any additional information, e-mail her at jessica.hannah2011@gmail.com.
Please give. Any amount matters. Any amount at all. Click the ChipIn box above or go to Charlie’s page HERE. Let’s make this little miracle happen for a family in need of one. Together we CAN do it, in no time flat — and we will!
Thank you, my generous Corgi friends!
