Representing the Great City of Boston, today’s dog is MAGGIE!

Originally a Southern girl, nine year-old Maggie made her way North by way of Little Legs, a Connecticut-based organization bringing Corgis and Corgi mixes from overcrowded kill shelters in the South up to New England, where they’re fostered until adoption.

A grant from the terrific CorgiAid supported Little Legs in helping Maggie find her foster, and forever, homes.

Mom Patrice T. writes “When Maggie reached her (wonderful) foster family through Little Legs, she was in bad shape: a kidney infection, dangerously high white blood cell counts, an infected foot, an infected eye, probable whipworms, and a number of neuroses. Thanks to CorgiAid, Little Legs and Maggie’s foster family, she was able to get the care and treatment she needed.”

“After completing the interview process and home visit with Little Legs, we were OK’d to adopt. We drove to Maggie’s foster home to meet her and fell completely and totally in love with this sweet, smart, wonderful dog. She came home with us to Boston that day! Now, two years later, Maggie is happy and healthy, with a constantly wagging butt in the absence of a tail.” 🙂

“She hadn’t been trained prior to coming to her foster home; by the time she came home with us, her fantastic foster mom had taught her to sit. Now she knows “sit,” “stay,” “shake,” “high five,” and “rollover,” among other impressive tricks.”

My best trick is being this cute.


“Maggie has the most expressive ears I’ve ever seen. They telegraph her emotions brilliantly and entertainingly. She also has many hilarious idiosyncrasies, like sneezing when she gets excited (which is often), an insatiable desire to eat all mini pumpkins within a 20-foot radius, howling along with TV commercials for “Where The Wild Things Are,” the ability to sprint like a greyhound when a squirrel enters the picture, and a charming ability to nuffle blankets into perfect Maggie nests using her head, her front paws, and lots of turning in circles.”

“When we’re hanging out on the Boston Common (which is just minutes from where we live), she is the center of attention for any kids who walk by, and she’s so gentle with them! In Spring and Summer, I always bring a cup of ice cubes (Maggie’s favorite) when we’re spending a lengthy time outside, so that kids can feed them to her.”
“Maggie makes friends and fans wherever she goes, and we can’t imagine our life without her! She is a joy.”

“Where’s Maggie?”
“My photo albums are basically all Maggie, all the time. My poor mother, I sent her the link to photos from the weekend I got engaged — eighty pictures of Maggie frolicking, two of me and my fiance, and none of the ring. Oops! We’re getting married in summer 2011, and Maggie will be our ringbearer.”
(Well of course!)

Maggie LOVES the beach! She zooms around on the sand with her tongue flopping out in joy, rolls around gleefully, and repeats the process over and again. On the opposite end of the weather spectrum, she also loves the snow — her reaction to it is equal parts confusion and OMGOMGSNOWWHEEEEEE!“

Speaking of happy endings …

“Thank you so much to Di at LittleLegs Rescue and the CorgiAid team for saving her life. I encourage all Corgi lovers to support these organizations — they are giving dogs like Maggie happy endings everyday.”
p.s. “One more thing: my younger sister used to make fun of me for looking at pictures of other people’s Corgis on-line when I needed a pick-me-up. Well, she sheepishly confessed that SHE HAS STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. She is now a regular Daily Corgi visitor.”

    I read Maggie's story on the CorgiAid website before coming here…and knew there was no way I was going to get through the story and pictures here without happy tears.

    Boy, was I right!

    Maggie looks to be the sweetest CorgiGirl ever (well, maybe except for my Zoe *chuckle*) Thank heavens for CorgiAid, for groups like Little Legs, for Maggie's foster (and for everyone who does rescue/foster care), and for Maggie's forever family (and anyone who has every given a dog in need a forever home)… 🙂

    There is definitely something about corgi ears – My baby uses them too. Maggie is very pretty, I'm so happy she found a forever home as good as yours.

    Thank you all so much for your incredibly thoughtful comments! It is an honor to be able to give dogs like Maggie a happy forever home. Maggie is at the vet getting her teeth cleaned today, so once she's back, she'll have an even brighter smile for all of you. Thank you again! (And Ryann, I guess Maggie's sneezing-when-excited isn't as idiosyncratic as I thought! Isn't it the cutest thing ever, though?)
