“Mama was taking too long to write my story” says Maeve. “Here I am on a Saturday night and tired of waiting for Mama, so I wrote dis’ myself!”
Sometimes a Corgi’s gotta take charge.
“My real name is Queen Maeve of Elwell Creek and I’m four years old. Mama calls me Mavis Ann when I don’t listen to her. She says it reminds her of a girl in a school uniform with mary janes and white socks … whatever!”
“I live in da’ foothills of da’ Cascade mountains not far from Seattle, in Washington. We also go to this other house, Mama calls it a beach house … whatever! When we are there I love to dig big holes in the sand of the backyard and lay in them. Then Mama calls me Mavis Ann … whatever!”
“I have one sister, a smooth coated Collie, who’s a rescue. Her name is Kali, but we call her Cwazy Kawi da’ Cowie! Mama sez not all her brain is there sometimes. Now get this … I have three brothers! Yes, count ’em, three! They’re all rescues too, but I’m not a rescue. Oki, he’s a shepherd mix, he’s da’ baby — only a year old — but Mama sez that I make a good Mama to him. I love Oki.
Zen is an Aussie/Cattle dog mix. He is a year older and a whole bunch of fun, but he never sleeps and is always up to something. Mama and Papa hope he’ll slow down someday. Then there is my oldest brother Taj, a smooth Collie/Greyhound. At thirteen, he is old! All he does is sleep and get in my way. So I have to bark at him … then Mama calls me Mavis Ann again.”
“Whatever.”
“Oh yeah, we have four silly furry things called cats. When I’m bored and Mama isn’t watching, I enjoy chasing them.”
“Seems to me they’re askin’ for it.”
“I love treats, lots of ’em, but Mama sez’ no! I love to swim, and she puts me in a bright orange thing so I don’t roll over and sink. Mama calls me the USS Corgi while I swim … whatever!”
“Mama sez’ that I am her heart dog. I don’t know what that means, but she sez that she never thought she would have room in her heart again after Minger Dawg went to some bridge. She left before I got here, but Taj and Zen said she was really cool.”
Well that’s all for now. I hear Mama calling … MAVIS ANN!!!
