When Topher Deluxe joined Sarah G.’s family in February of last year, he was friendly and bright but “quiet for a Corgi.”
“After looking into that face, who could have kept themselves from bringing him home?”
“This is my first Corgi, and while I’ve always enjoyed the breed, he still amazes me with his ability to read my mood and cheer me up.”
“He was such a serious puppy — intent on chewing on everything (coffee table legs, the wall, socks … always socks!) — but all I had to do was get my walking shoes and Topher was at the door ready to go! He’s always good for a laugh and a romp. I enjoy every minute of our walks, even in the muggy, buggy Florida summer.”
“Tennis balls are also great fun, especially once they’re fluffy enough that he can pull the green fuzz off and leave little fuzz bunnies all over the house.”
“When he was five months old, he had a bit of trouble with some stairs, and sadly the stairs got the better of him. He was in a cast for five incredibly long and tedious weeks. I don’t know if the lack of exercise was harder on him or me, but we made it through by working on his brain … puzzle toys galore! I have to say, after the first two days the cast didn’t made much of a difference to him. He got an exasperated look every time I got out the plastic bags and duct tape to make an outdoor bootie to keep things clean, but it was worth it.”
“He healed up perfectly with no permanent damage, and the vet was surprised the cast had been on the whole time without a change. I’d kept it clean!”
“I have a friend who keeps bunnies, and she pointed out that when he lays this way, his butt looks like that of her rabbit Harvey, which makes me laugh because everyone tells me Topher’s face looks like a fox. In my head that becomes “Fox Face Bunny Butt”! Say it fast, it’s too much fun!
“When we visit the “grandparents”, Topher finds the trip boring and sleeps most of the time. However, their great big backyard is great for going all out chasing tennis balls and squirrels.”
“Topher LOVES to dig. He doesn’t try to dig out, just enjoys making a big hole. Unfortunately his favorite place is just outside the back door so he tracks a bunch of dirt in when we aren’t paying attention.”
“His favorite activities include stealing socks, chasing lizards on the patio and sneaking up behind me. I call him “stealth puppy” with good reason. It’s very common for me to call him, only to turn around and he’s behind me. I’ve become better about keeping tabs on him in the house, but he still surprises me with a cold nose to the leg once in awhile.”
“I love the fact that Topher is always ready to go with a smile, except for that one time we got caught in a downpour and were soaked within minutes. He looked at me with disgust every time we stopped under a tree to wring ourselves out.”
“Now I call him “Loaf” it it’s rainy and he doesn’t want to go out.”
“Toph is such a joy. Curious and quirky, quiet and laid back, attuned to me even when he’s only HALF listening … my fur baby is the best company!”
