Katie B. picked Emmet up from the breeder when he was eight weeks old.
“We still hadn’t decided on a name, but when we crossed an Emmet Street on our way home I was reminded of a favorite Muppets special from when I was little called “Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas”.
“That was it. We had our Emmet.”
“Emmet just turned ten, but he’s far from an old man. He keeps in shape with the treat ball, his favorite toy. I often wonder how many miles he walks per day rolling it around the house.”
“If there were a Corgi Olympics, treat ball would be Emmet’s sport. And no treat is ever left behind.”
“We often find him sitting by the sofa or bookcase waiting patiently for someone to assist him with a treat that has gone astray and he can’t reach.”
“He also likes to burn some energy by chasing the laser pointer around the living room. Usually around 10 p.m. he sits in front of the end table staring at the drawer where the toy is kept. After a few minutes of joyful barking and dashing around the coffee table, he’s satisfied and heads off to bed.”
Emmet (a.k.a. Shorty, Low Rider, Emmet Otter) nursing on his favorite blanket.
“Like all Corgis, Emmet loves to eat. He once had a feast out of a giant bucket of dog treats — on Thanksgiving Day, no less. He had eaten his way through several inches of treats before we realized what was going on. His belly was already rock hard, but I believe he would have kept eating had we not taken them away. We took him outside immediately, but he never showed any ill effects from his feast. I think it was probably one of the happiest days of his life!”
“Emmet’s edible loves include peanut butter, cheese, bananas, and baby carrots. I swear he can hear a banana being peeled and will come into the kitchen for his bite! And if it doesn’t look like he’s going to get his treat, he starts a spontaneous run through of all the tricks he knows. You just can’t resist!”
“As much as a loves food, he hates the car. All you have to do is say the word “car” and he runs upstairs to hide. Although he hates the ride, he loves the destinations.”
“He loves hiking at Swallow Falls, where there are plenty of shallow pools for him to get his feet wet, and kayaking at Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland.”
“When the kayaks come out, he runs down to the dock and tries to jump in the boat before we even get it in the water.”
“Once we set off on the water, he never seems more content than when he is resting his head on the edge of the boat enjoying the cool breeze.”
“Emmet enjoys water activities, but what he likes even more is the snow (if it’s not too deep of course). We don’t usually get much snow, so when we do, he does all he can to enjoy it to the fullest.”
“Of all the things he loves, Emmet’s greatest love is people. Whether he’s met you one time or 100, you are his best friend.”
“Everyone should be so lucky.”

Emmet – the name suits him perfectly! Where ever did you get that life jacket? I need two and the few I've seen just don't look substantial enough to hold my butterballs!
Katie B says
His life jacket is made by Outward Hound. Ruffwear also makes a good one.

What a loving tribute to a great little fella. We lost our boy in March very suddenly. We're thankful that we were all home with him those last minutes. God speed little corgis…there is something SO special about this breed.
