The Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America held Herding Tests and Trials on the weekend of September 22 and 23 in Battle Ground, Washington.
Daily Corgi readers Char and Allen H. spent some time at the trials and had a terrific time.
“Everyone was so friendly” reports Char. “We didn’t have any idea what was going on and
people went out of their way to explain what was happening in each
event. We missed seeing the cattle but watched duck and sheep
herding. I’ve done novice agility with our Pembroke Dill and got an inkling of what
training for that entails; however, herding is a whole different ballgame in
terms of finding a training facility and devoting extensive hours to
working a dog with unpredictable cattle, sheep or ducks.”

“It
looked really challenging and we were so impressed with the good spirit
of competition. Of course we got to see and fawn all over some
beautiful dogs too. We left Dill at home because we weren’t sure we
could bring a non-competing dog into the area, but it turned out that we
could have had him there. It would have been a great opportunity for
him to socialize. Maybe next year.”

encourage people to go watch these events. It’s just so fun to watch the
dogs do what they were bred to do and take their jobs so seriously.”

“These litter mates weren’t competing and snoozed through all
the excitement; perhaps they were part of agility, obedience or
conformation which took place later in the week.”

I love the pictures. We have a pond on our property that seems to attract Mallards and Canadian Geese. Missy (our Corgi) has the best time chasing them, and I enjoy watching her have such a joyous time!

Love it!!! My Andy has his herding instinct title with ducks from the American Herding Breeds Association through our local breed club, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Potomac. Our "Great Herding Weekend" is coming up Oct. 6-9 (this weekend) and I can't wait! It's in Westminster, MD. Andy will try his luck with sheep this time (not bad for 11 years old)! Go to PWCCP.ORG if you're in the area and want to watch. And yes, bring thy Corgi!

At the pen, the duck and the corgi are having a conversation. "No I won't." "Yes you will. See I told you that you would!"

It's just like what they do with us at home!
