Dally and Porter: Off To the Agility Races!

Big thanks to Megan Arszman and Merinda Tiffany for the scoop on their forthcoming trip to the 2013 American Kennel Club National Agility Championships. Take it away, ladies!

Next week, thousands of dog and handler teams will be heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the 2013 American Kennel Club (AKC) National Agility Championships. It will be the largest Nationals ever — so big this year they added a sixth ring and another judge.

Kentuckians Megan Arszman and Merinda Tiffany will soon hit the road to Tulsa with high hopes and competitive Corgis in tow. Megan’s Pembroke Welsh Corgi female, PACH Frontiers Honkytonkbadonkadonk RN, AX, AXJ, MXPB, MXP3, MJPB, MJP3, PAX, NF, CGC (better known as “Dally”) and Merinda’s Cardigan Welsh Corgi male Raconteur Porteur Du Jaune OA NAJ NF MXP2 MJP2 XFP PT BN RA CGC (better known as “Porter”) are ready to strut their stuff!

These Daily Corgi fans will be blogging and tweeting from Nationals, and invite us to
follow their teams. We like to take photos” writes Megan, “so expect to see lots of
photos!”

Megan
has made agility more of a game for Dally; getting riled up at the starting line.

“Dally and I are pumped to be going to the AKC National Agility Championship for the second year in a row. I started training Dally in agility in 2007 and we started competing in 2008, first in 8-inch regular. However, after a couple of years I started to see Dally struggle physically at that jump height. She was in good condition, but it was hard for us to clear the standard course times. I was also taking her to a chiropractor often to keep her in working order. In 2010 I moved her down to the Preferred level so she was jumping 4 inches, and nothing has stopped us since! (She’s almost 8 years old, but you’d never know it).”

“Last year in Reno, Nevada at the 2012 AKC Nationals, Dally and I made it all the way to the Challengers’ Round for a chance at the Finals, but we ended up in eighth place — not bad for our first time! Since then, we’ve had one heck of a year, earning our Preferred Agility Champion (PACH) title in November!”

“We’re looking forward to having some clean, fast runs in Tulsa and enjoying our time with our friends, especially since we’re road tripping with our best buddies, Porter and Merinda!”

Team Porter and Merinda:

“Porter and I couldn’t be more excited to make their first trip to the AKC National Agility Championship! He’s an almost 8 year-old Cardigan Welsh Corgi who has been competing in agility since 2007. He originally began competing in his regular jump height of 12 inches, but like Dally, I knew when it was time to move him down to Preferred so he is now jumping and excelling at 8-inches.” 

“It took us quite a while to find our groove, but once things started to click we haven’t looked back! You see, Porter has never been very good at weaving. We struggled for years. It has only been within the last year that we have finally started qualifying consistently. I never thought we’d have any chance of qualifying for Nationals!”
