Emilie found Avery at a rescue in
Springfield, Ohio by way of Petfinder.com. “There was no photo, but his
description mostly fit what I was looking for in a Corgi” she recalls. “I say mostly because I always pictured myself with the classic red and
white, stub-tailed Corgi, while Avery is a
sable, fully-tailed Pembroke! In spite of that, I drove three hours up to Ohio to see him and have
NEVER regretted it.”

“I had to drive back about a month later to pick him
up, because he was busy finishing his heartworm treatment and he hadn’t
been neutered yet. To this day, I can’t figure out how anyone could ever have given him up. Avery has never given me any trouble (although he has
stolen my lunch a few times — but who can resist pizza?) and he is
ridiculously smart. I can trust him with me, even off leash, anywhere.”

“As a horse person as well as a dog person, I spend a lot of my time at the barn. Avery
has been a fantastic barn dog. Sometimes he helps a little too much,
forgetting that he’s so much smaller than the horses I’m leading around.
He’ll run with me when I ride, which can be up to an hour at a time.
On one particular occasion, I had four horses to ride in a day, and he
ran with every single one! Needless to say, he’s acquired a reputation
for being a very fit Corgi.”

“His latest accomplishment is learning to go down slides at the
playground. I taught him about sliding last year around Easter, while
visiting a friend’s house. Now he knows the command “Go down the
slide” and will even climb up the playground stairs to get to it.”

“I blog about our days at Golden Pony Adventures. This
little dog has followed me everywhere since I first brought him home,
and my Facebook profile is literally covered with photos of him. Between
Avery and my horse Abercrombie, I’m sure my friends are
getting pretty tired of all the updates! But you know, there’s
nothing better than having two such wonderful four-legged family
members.”
