When Gizmo’s London family decided they wanted another dog, they looked for a breed smaller and easier to handle than their two resident German Shepherds. “Our twelve year old
son Michael was much taken with the idea of
getting a Corgi” writes Anne G., “and after researching the breed I felt it would be
ideal. We saw both Pembrokes
and Cardigans at the London Pet Show and fell in love, particularly with
the Pembrokes.”

“I soon discovered that litters are few and far between in the UK. In the Spring of 2012, after contacting a couple of breeders, one mentioned that she
knew of someone with a current litter. This “someone” turned out to
be Diana King, who is chairwoman
of the Welsh Corgi League and advocate of the breed here in
the UK. Diana sent us a photo of Gizmo and as you can imagine, it was love at first sight!”

“As a “fluffy” coated Pembroke he’s unsuitable for showing, but
this was fine as we only wanted a lovely cuddly pet, not a show dog.
We went along to meet him and he was just as adorable as his photo, with a
very big personality to match.”

“We learned that Gizmo was already very used to human contact, as his Mum had become
very ill days following the birth. Michael called him Gizmo after the Mogwai from the film Gremlins because of the markings on his face.”
“Right from the start, the new pup established himself as the boss of our German Shepherds
Brodie and Jess. At just a year older than Giz, Brodie bonded quickly with his new playmate.”

“At the park, Brodie loves to have a ball thrown to run and fetch. Gizmo
chases after him and often hangs on to his neck to keep up on the way
back. Jess is an old lady now at eleven, but she enjoys playing with him and puts up with his exuberance with excellent grace.”

“Unfortunately
he has a few less
desirable habits. Giz loves to roll in unpleasant and smelly
finds at the park. Because it takes forever to
bathe his thick coat, I’m not so pleased! When he was young, Giz
also did that Corgi thing of making a mess by paddling in his water bowl. Thank goodness he grew out of that one!”
“He
is very clever. If he wants a toy one of the other dogs is
playing with, he goes and sits at the back door asking to go into the
garden. When the other dogs rush over to go out as well, he slips back
inside to get the toy! Gizmo is very vocal and has quite a repertoire of
noises for various occasions.”
“He knows when it’s time for his
walk and sits staring at me intently, then starts to softly grumble if I
take no notice. It’s the same with dinner time, and like most Corgis he
is very keen on his food. He also loves to share the biscuits I have
with my tea but I’m not supposed to give him
any so shhhh ;-)”
“There are not as many corgis here in the UK as
there appear to be in the States. We have never seen another in London,
believe it or not (apart from those very famous ones that live in
Buckingham Palace!) It was lovely to go to the Corgi League club party here, but there were only about twenty dogs.”
“We are so glad we chose a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Gizmo is everything we wanted and more: a wonderful
companion for my son who sits waiting for him to get home from school
and makes us all laugh with his cheeky antics.”

Gizmo sounds like the essential Corgi. I'm glad he found such a wonderful family and home.
