Teej is an interesting guy who came to Corgi Connection of Kansas by way of Craiglist. This highly spunky Corgi/Heeler mix hasn’t had a lot of room to roam in his young life and missed a few (OK, a lot) of classes in the canine socialization academy. Which makes him a great candidate for somebody with strong dog experience, the kind of person who looks at a fella like Teej and sees the joy of challenge and potential of reward.
All dogs bring something to our lives. Teej, currently two-to-three years old, offers that fantastic smile, an obsession with playing ball and car rides and cuddling. He’s a crate trained, HIGH energy dog who will exercise you daily with play and walk sessions. On the down side, he’ll occasionally try to mark (though he is house trained).
At his foster home when he’s allowed in the backyard with one
of the other dogs, he barks non-stop at her and tries to nip. (He’s got a lot to say). Once leashed, he settles down some. The rescue team don’t know whether Teej already thinks the backyard is his or he if he really just doesn’t care for
his foster sister. (In his defense, sisters can be annoying). He does play well with others at doggy daycare!

So. Dashing Teej has a lot to learn about manners, interacting with people and other dogs, because nobody ever taught him! That will be his new family’s job. Smart dogs can learn. Given time and the chance, often they do! Part of the pleasure of taking a dog with a less than stellar start in life is giving him that guidance and watching him bloom! If you’ve done that, you know. Maybe Teej is waiting for you to take him in firm but gentle hand and show him what a fantastic life he can have … no need for the smirky misbehaving?
Bare bones facts: According to Jeanette, “Teej has nipped his foster Mom and me. It was
never aggressive … more like a warning or “hey, I’m uncomfortable
with that.” He never did bite down. He will still occasionally growl but
he is much more comfortable than when he first arrived. Because of
Teej’s lack of training and socializing, he will not be adopted to a home
with children or cats. He would probably do best an only dog.”

“He really has the potential to be a
great dog, we just have to find the right person.”

So what do YOU think? Seems to me this guy is a diamond in the rough, with the makings of a future Dog of the Day success story written in his fabulous face! I am rooting for him and have an excellent feeling about his future.

The End (but really it’s only The Beginning!)

He sounds like a great agility dog prospect! Give him somewhere to focus his energy and use his brain, and he will settle right in!
