In her time 14 year-old Nicky has been a champion show dog and the apple of her family’s eye. Today is her birthday, and 14 is a milestone … happy birthday, pretty lady!
She and her family are navigating a new chapter in Nicky’s life since her recent diagnosis of degenerative myelopthy, a progressive disease that affects the spinal cord and a dog’s ability to walk. DM results in lost coordination of the hind legs, which progresses eventually to weakness and then to paralysis of the hindquarters. (Source and more info here).
Like many dogs with DM, Nicky will eventually be fitted for a cart (Corgi on wheels!) … her folks Cynthia and Vicky are purposeful and lovingly proactive, determined that Nicky will continue her long and happy life with them for a while to come.
Kudos to them and dedicated pet parents everywhere! You inspire many and rock the Corgi socks! So does Nicky. 🙂
