Friends, our regular Tuesday CorgiPals post is on hiatus this week. Which is a good excuse (not that we need one) to bring back a gem from the archives! Buddy the “recreational barker” made his first Dog of the Day appearance on the blog a little more than two years ago, on December 16, 2011.
Today it comes barreling back. All that puppy power. Strap yourself in!
Every time Buddy the Elf visits the vet, he gets the “Elvis has entered the building” greeting from the staff. So he thinks he’s pretty hot stuff. (Let’s face it — he is!)
His family waited more than three years to get Buddy after losing their previous Corgi, the beloved Indy. They lived in Hawaii, where Corgi litters were few and far between and quarantine laws made bringing a pup in from outside the islands a tough proposition. A move to the D.C. area this Summer brought them closer to their dream — and to Buddy.
I love the smell of Cascade in the morning!
Although he’s one cheeky monkey, Buddy is happy to assist his Mom Janis S. around the house. Dishes, laundry — you name it, he’s on it! The other day he helpfully scarfed down a Bounce dryer sheet that fell to the floor. He didn’t get sick and no longer has static cling.
Buddy is a recreational barker. In the bark-at-worthy category: things that aren’t there (“at least I really hope there’s nothing there”), his reflection in the oven glass, his toys, his Mom’s boots, the television … it’s a long list. He’s not a picky eater. Rocks, acorns, and leaves have met their doom in his belly. Buddy’s favorite is “Keep Away”, as in “Keep Buddy Away From Whoever Is Trying to Catch Him”.
“Bright, funny, exasperating, charming, and too clever for his own good … Buddy loves everyone and everyone seems to love him right back. That elfin, impish face melts my heart.”
Cheers to Buddy the Elf! May he never grow into those big ears!

My Pembroke Corgi girl Heidi was back in the bedroom when I started the video of Buddy playing with his toy. I turned my speakers up and she came running to check out the "other" Corgi in her house! I'm a long-time Pembroke lover, and I love your Buddy!!
