Jasper Islington: Just The Facts (and haiku or two)

Here is a set of interesting facts about me, complete with pictures and Haiku! This was a LOT of fun to put together, and I hope you learn a thing or two about me.

I didn’t smile for a very long time. Mum and Da were starting to get worried. They were afraid they had found the first overly morose Corgi. It took until I was just over 6 months old, but the smiles did eventually come out to play.

And here it is. My very first smile caught on “film!”

Mum is, without a doubt, the Alpha, and I know it. As such, I look to her for cues as to how to live my life. One thing I picked up on almost immediately is her utter disdain for mornings.

Da, who IS a morning person, is thoroughly amused. He springs out of bed in the morning and just watches Mum and I practice being still.

Hibernation, a Haiku

This oval protects
The light, the time matters not
I refuse to wake

I love small, confined spaces. While I know this isn’t terribly interesting, or uncommon, I was well chuffed to have found this spot.

Compaction, a Haiku

So comfortable
Protection through compression
May stay here for days

I am incredibly poor at hide and seek.

Fail and Seek, a Haiku

So sure I would win
How could anyone see me?
Still bad at hiding

When I’m feeling blah, or am EXTREMELY tired, or somewhat scared, I like to burrow into Mum’s armpit. From experience, I know this is a very safe place.

Tenderness, a Haiku

Sometimes I’m needy
Mum is happy to oblige
There to hold my paw

In my formative years, from naught to three, the Uprights and I lived in the suburbs. It was nice and quiet and I thought that’s just how the world was. We then moved in to the heart of the city, which was … different. The first few months were ok, but then the building on the corner of my block was demolished and a new building put in its place. It was LOUD. Scary loud, and vibrational. This lead to a general distrust of going outside. It led to situations such as this, where I was not keen to go on my constitutionals. As time passed, I got past this and now I’m back to enjoying my walks.

Sophistry, a Haiku

I stand motionless
Try to blend with furniture
Must avoid the walk

Starting when I was wee, and continuing to the present day, I am a chewer of towels. Be they in my crate, on the floor, on the bed, I have a need to chew the corners. I don’t eat them, I simply chew them into little bits that the Uprights refer to as “projects.” Here I was captured with a green project stuck to my mouth. 

Awkward.
