Today is the day feisty, fabulous and unforgettable Patrick of Dallas, Texas turns the big ONE-FIVE. Sure, it happens to be Valentine’s Day, but do you think he knows this day is really all about HIM?
I’ll give you one guess. (Hint: the answer ain’t no).
His mom Michele (technically the head servant) says it’s no accident that Patrick was born on Valentine’s Day. “He’s the sweetest Corgi ever!” she enthuses.
Who are we to argue? There is no arguing with a coffee table Corgi anyhow. He is too busy being one with the table.
“Patrick will probably be the last dog we get as a little puppy instead of a rescue, but I’ll never regret bringing that adorable puppy home. We went looking after we lost our Corgi, Stuart to kidney disease, and the minute I spotted him, I knew he was the one. In a pen with his litter, I took Patrick out and he marched around like he owned the place. I fell in love with this supremely confident little guy.”
Husband Robert understands his place in the family, having accepted Patrick as the “true love” of his wife’s life. He even tolerates Patrick’s insistence on walking him, ahem.
“Yes” sighs the birthday boy.” I grew up to be both in charge and handsome — and might I add always hungry. I’m a hard working guy who loves my grub. When I’ve made quick work of what’s in my food bowl, the live-in servants scatter a few crunchies in the laundry room. I’ve trained them well!”
“This here is Jaks” whispers Simon, “who sadly didn’t win the whole genetic jackpot. But we can’t ALL be Corgis so I’ve made her welcome here. Extended a graceful and benevolent paw, taught her the ins and outs of living in a Corgi-led home. It hasn’t always been easy, she’s challenged my authority few times, but you know how it is with German Shepherds. Bless their spunky hearts.”
Gemma, a natural at tandem Corgi napping, came to live with the Quiroga family as a rescue after spending some rough years in an unhealthy overbreeding environment. If that sly smile is any indication, this sweet girl is enjoying her new forever home every bit as much as Patrick.
Nobody makes it past the threshold of Chez Patrick without a thorough inspection. But who is that suave, Clooney-esque dog reflected in the glass?
Don’t be SILLY, that’s me! Isn’t it obvious?
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a birthday to celebrate. Corgi On, y’all and Happy Valentine’s Day!
