A few weeks ago, The Daily Corgi shared the story of Pumpkin and his Mom Lori H.
This Pembroke from New Jersey had surgery on his back leg, and then developed a condition called Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. In short order, Pumpkin’s vet bills had risen to the point where Lori had to consider giving him to another home where his care could be managed financially.
To keep Pumpkin and Lori together, the amazing Daily Corgi community donated an amazing $2,000 in under three days via Pumpkin’s “Chip In” site:
Here’s the most recent news from Pumpkin’s Mom Lori:
“Pumpkin saw the vet, Dr. Straus, on Thursday. His PCV was up from 20 to 22 — a positive sign. The rest of the blood work also showed improvement. We are to go back in ten days for more testing. The vet is changing Pumpkin’s medications a little to take into account the healing of his leg from the surgery.
The visit with the vet was about $200 and the prescriptions were about $160. Many thanks to all the donors that made this care possible! We will be seeing Dr. Straus again on May 25th for more blood work. Then we will be seeing the surgeon who operated on Pumpkin’s leg on June 1. That visit will involve more x-rays, so that will be at least $200. That should be the last expense on his leg, but the anemia treatment will be going on indefinitely — no way to predict when he will be back to normal, but he is on the road to recovery.”
The good news? Pumpkin’s with his Mom and is on his way, slowly but surely, back to good health.
The reality of the situation? One we all know far too well. Quality care for our loved furry ones doesn’t come cheap.
Because I’d like Lori to be able to continue getting Pumpkin the care he needs without having to worry about money anytime soon, I’m posting again about her situation … (and no, she hasn’t asked me to do this! 🙂
Through this Friday 5/21, ALL profits from sales in The Daily Corgi’s cafepress shop will be donated to Lori’s “Pumpkin Fund” …
