After saying goodbye to Buddy, the Corgi he’d had for thirteen years, Mark A. refused to get another one. “I’d already had the best, why tempt fate?”
(Famous last words).
“After a few years of mourning” writes Mark, I was ready for another dog. One Sunday I decided to look at Petfinder.com, and the first dog that popped up was a cute little Corgi puppy who looked a lot like Buddy! His bio said we shared the same birthday, March 10th.”
“I took it as a good sign.”
“It just so happened that the very next day that my parents would be traveling home to Texas, and their route would take them within twenty minutes of Barney’s breeder.”
“They picked him up for me on their way and kept him ’til I could come down from New York City to get him. My parents are NOT dog people, but by the time I got there two weeks later, that munchkin had them wrapped around his little paw!
“A few days later my Mom called me from their car to tell me they’re heading back to get Barney’s brother for themselves!”
“So now I live happily with Barney in NYC, but we often get back to Texas to visit the folks and Barney’s brother Barry. When the two of them get together, it’s like they’ve never been apart! Very cute!”
“You might wonder why I chose the name Barney. I was working at the department store Barneys New York when I found him, thus his name! I would take him into the store all the time, and of course he is now the unofficial Barney’s mascot. They get mad at me if I dare to come in without him!”
“I tell him he’s lucky I wasn’t working at Walmart when I got him or he might be answering to the name Wally!”
“I truly believe BarBar was meant to be mine!”
