Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Mingus and Coltrane!
“He’s never met a dog or person he doesn’t like …
… but his seven year-old brother frequently annoys him.”
Before he came to live with Lois and Remi, he was a singleton who lived with his mother and a few other adult females who were shown by his breeder.
Lois on Ming: “He is serious and likes his routine. He follows directions to the letter. When he was young I had cats. Their food and litter boxes were and the lower level, so I told him not to go down the stairs. To this day I can’t get him to go down those stairs even though the cats have gone on to watch over us and the room is now my studio.”
“He also doesn’t understand that I only need to wake at 5 a.m., Monday through Friday, but knows to allow me to go back to bed when I tell him to go back to sleep on the weekends. Once he has had breakfast and a walk, all is right with the world and he can be found sleeping on his back on the futon in the office.”
“Coltrane, on the other hand, came from a big litter of pups and thinks that there is nothing better than a dogpile.”
“He has no respect for personal space and is grouchy in the morning. After he is fed he likes to go back to sleep, usually under the bed.”
“When it is time for a walk Mingus goes bonkers barking to wake Coltrane and get him to come to the door.”
“Once fully awake Cole is a sweetheart. He is quite a bit smaller than Ming and has a puppy face and fine features so most people think he is a girl. But he is all boy — mud puddles, sticks, turtles, and lizards — he loves them all.”
“In the house, Cole has an army of stuffed toys. He carries them around the house, squeaks them, and tries to get us all to play with him. His favorites are the hedgehog and orange hammer.”
“At human dinner time, he goes to get a stuffed animal and brings it to the table with him. He tries to trade it for some food.”
“Although this doesn’t work on me, I believe my husband might be encouraging this behavior.”
Coltrane likes to sleep on top of one of his toys or a pile of pillows …
… while Mingus prefers to sleep with Daddy.
“Yep. Just about anything.”
“They love to sit on the couch in the office, but each one would like to be the only one getting attention. Coltrane usually walks all over Mingus to irritate him and get him to leave, then they play King of the Couch.”
“Pretty soon they each take their own end of the couch and have their naps.”
“Mingus, who hated to be picked up for his first eight years, has decided that he wants to end each walk being cuddled and practically jumps into my arms when I bend to scoop him up. He discovered this new joy last month when he was suffering from some mysterious ailment which made him not want to walk, and that disappeared just as quickly as it came. Several hundred dollars of X-rays and blood tests later, the vet decided he was probably just constipated. We put him on pain killers for three days and he was cured.”
“Coltrane has a life-long crush on Lulu, the little Boston Terrier next next door.”
What’s a guy gotta do?
“One of the neighbors down the street has a black cat with whom they visit every morning on our walk. They will not move on until they have exchanged their greetings with her.”
What happens in the backyard stays in the backyard!
“They love to visit other dogs. Here they are with Mingus’s half-brother Captain.”
They have “cousins” in Cleveland, Ohio: Topper, Rita, and Harry.
What are THOSE?!
Pool par-TAY!
“Yee-hah!”
Bathtime?
Urrff, not so much.
It’s a good life for these two …
The (stubby) End.

Thanks Laurie! Although my brother and his wife just made my parents grandparents over the weekend, I'm sure my mom will be proud to see her grand-dogs in print (plus Harry is her dog). My little guys have taken their positions on the couch behind me and are awaiting the morning walk. It is just another corgi-licious day here in Georgia.

What a wonderful surprise to see so many new photos of my Granddogs!
To know these little big guys is to adore them.
I'd forgotten about the pool incident, I wish we had more pics of Coltrane accidently falling into the water as he rolled around the deck but I was so upset that I put down the camera.
We'll have some new stuffed toys around for Mingus to shred and for Rita, Harry and Coltrane to carry around when the Corgis come to visit soon.
Just their smiling presence is great PD therapy for their Grandfather.
