I’ve just heard directly from Steven Stoler, the WFAA reporter who wrote the article about these dogs.  According to him, “a Farmersville judge will spare the life of two dogs he ordered euthanized after they attacked a sheep in a homeowner’s backyard.” 

If you’d still like to write a letter (see below), now you can thank them for making the right decision!

A few days ago, I posted the following link to a news story on The Daily Corgi’s facebook page about two dogs accused of attacking a sheep — and subsequently ordered euthanized — in Farmersville, Texas:

One of the dogs is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the other one is purportedly a Heeler mix (I cannot say for certain).  They are both less than a year old.  At this time, there are rescue folks and an attorney working with the city and court to overturn the judge’s euthanization order.  For more information about the case, read Larry Powell’s blog post HERE.

NOTE: I am not personally involved in this case, beyond a personal concern for the dogs, nor am I in direct contact with any the individuals and group(s) or the lawyer advocating for these dogs.  My suggestions and views are strictly from one concerned dog lover to another. As a blogger I make every effort to verify information, cite sources and “op ed” in a responsible way.

If you would like to write to the Farmersville, Texas court / city officials / city attorney regarding this case to express your support for overturning the judge’s euthanasia order, relevant information will follow.

These dogs’ lives are in the hands of the justice system right now, which is why I believe a respectful, civil approach in addressing them is best.  Keep the focus on the outcome, and try not to disparage anybody (I know this might be difficult … but try :-).

ADDITIONALY, Judy Griggs of RPAL (Rescue Pet Adoption League) has suggested that people visit reporter Steve Stoler’s story on the WFAA website … “and kindly, informatively respond to negative comments from the general public about these two dogs. According to Judy, some of the people who have left comments demonstrating that they are woefully without knowledge of animals and animal behavior.”  (Text in apostrophes is a direct quote from Larry Powell’s blog post HERE).

Because we are more informed than the general public about dog behavior, our opinions — reasonably stated — could be both corrective and helpful.
