As a child, Claire H. was terrified of dogs until her parents got her a retired therapy dog named Diva. “She was the sweetest dog in the world. Once my fear was gone, I begged my parents again and again for a puppy, leaving notes under their pillows.”
“After meeting and falling in love with some Pembroke pups, one day they surprised me with a trip to the breeder. That’s the day I took Maura home, a five pound girl as cute as can be!”
“Today she’s a funny, happy, athletic girl of 28 pounds. She loves to run and play soccer and “monkey in the middle”. She`s always in the middle, but will almost trip me to get the ball! Maura used to be crazy and out of control, but we took her to “doggie boot camp” where she learned her manners.”
“She’s so well behaved now. Maura can be off-leash in many places and always comes back. She really needed to learn some tricks, since she’s a working dog and her parents are great at herding, so I taught her all the basic things. She can also shake hands, wave, add (1 + 1), and leave a treat alone on her paws. I’m training her in agility too.”
“Maura absolutely loves food. We call her our “vacuum cleaner” because if something drops on the floor, it`s spotless after she eats it. Her favorite munchies are peanut butter, ice cream, cookies, bacon, steak, chicken, gravy and rice, apples, and Sonic burgers. On her birthdays she gets a cake!”
“Maura’s ideal day is a 9 a.m. rise and shine, followed by a trip to the lake, then the dog park. Next up, a Sonic burger and an afternoon of agility and playing catch.”
“In the spring, Maura has allergies and chews on her paws, so she has a cone around her head to stop the chewing. She sometimes hurts her paws, and has to take pills and rest for a week each time it happens. That cuts into her agility time.”
“Maura is so fun to be around, loves a good snuggle and is just plain cute!”
