“From that day on, Gracie was ours.”
“Gracie was lost without him. Every time we opened a door to a room she would look for him. She was so sad and alone and clung to us much more than before. I told my husband when he and Gracie were ready, we could start looking for a new family member. In January 2012, we went to a local breeder to meet his dogs and give Gracie some socialization.”
“As time passed, Izzy became more comfortable with us and Gracie. They started playing together and Izzy relied on Gracie to alert her to household happenings. One day we were in the living room and a barking Izzy took off for the kitchen. I got up to see what was going on and saw her chasing the cats. I realized she had relied on reflections to watch what was happening in the kitchen … Izzy saw the cats coming but they didn’t see her!”
“This is her regular thing now, sneaking up on the cats. After all this time, they still haven’t figured it out. Izzy leaps like a deer over the edge of the couch and chases them, putting them back in the laundry room where they belong. It’s nice and sunny in there, warmed by the sun and set up for them: cat beds, box, food and water.”
“Izzy also uses reflections in the fireplace glass to see what’s going on with “Daddy” to see if he’s giving Gracie treats. She is such a curious dog, always watching, and learning. She loves to watch our fish tanks; my husband found her in the chair near one of one of the tanks watching the yellow fish swim by. Now she is always in that chair watching the tank, among the other tanks that we have in our home.”
“Izzy is a Daddy’s girl for sure. When he’s on the computer, she’ll lay right in his lap on top of the key board to get his attention. She’s an escape artist as well as a cat chaser. While my husband and I are at work, we put the dogs in the kitchen. It’s a large kitchen with their water bowls, beds, a couch and a comfy chair. Well, we came home one day to find that Izzy had chewed one of my husband’s belts and the arm of the chair. She was in the living room, having jumped the three foot high baby gate. Apparently she thought she could do all this damage and escape, leaving Gracie to hold the bag! Gracie was never a chewer, Gracie is a sleeper and eater: she’s a female Garfield The Cat. Now we have fashioned a piece of plywood as the dog gate; as far as we know Izzy hasn’t jumped it yet.”
“Gracie and Izzy are best friends, like sisters. They love to play together in the yard and sleep together too. When rawhides are involved, however, they don’t share very well. Instead of fighting, they carefully hide their chews from one another. I find bones in the most unusual spots, even once on the coffee table! The next day I found out how it got there; Izzy was jumping up on to the coffee table with her bone and placing it in the center of the table, leaving it there so Gracie couldn’t get to it. She had figured out that Gracie is too short to jump on the table.”
These two are always up to something.”
“Izzy and Gracie love being in the car. Izzy finds it the perfect time to take a nap.”
“Gracie hates it when the car is moving. She just sits there like a statue, literally not moving a muscle.”
“Petsmart is their favorite store, they like to sit in the cart, pick out their treats and get plenty of attention. It’s great socialization for Izzy to get used to new smells and other dogs. They love to play in the yard and go for walks with me in the morning. They’re also content just hanging out watching movies with us. We all hang out on the couch together.”
“There is so much more we have yet to experience with Izzy and Gracie, I can hardly wait. Corgis are really the best breed. They travel well because of their size, and they are always making us laugh because of their special and individual personalities. You never know what a Corgi is going to do next, but you can be sure it will make you laugh.”
“We’ve only had Izzy for a few months, but it’s like we’ve always had her. She and Gracie have a long future ahead together, making us laugh and melting our hearts.”
