Meet Tarah! This feisty female barks at the ocean but won’t go in, chases the hummingbirds away from their food, guards her grub and car with a vengeance, and makes her lucky Mom Barbara P. laugh every single day.
“She loves to play tug-of-war with her leash, or just lead herself around altogether. No doubt about it, Tarah is the furry body who controls me. Even though she’ll be eight years old in August, she isn’t slowing down. Ever since she was little, Tarah has loved to pull Kleenex and papers out of the trash and rip them up — still a fun game for her today today. I used to try to get her to stop doing it, but it’s pretty funny and harmless so I gave up. If she’s home for a day too long, Tara will run laps around my coffee table or throw her toys at me until I throw them back.”
“Before every breakfast and dinner she does what jokingly call her “dinner dance”: grabs a toy, throws it in the kitchen, makes me kick it back, runs a lap, and repeats until her bowl is ready. Then she drops said toy, sits, and waits to be released to eat.”
“Tarah gets to go almost everywhere with me: horse shows, errands and the like. She enjoys frequent visits to a friend’s house where a Lab and Aussie are ready to play with her. She’s my fourth Corgi and just a great dog, given to me by wonderful friends when Hannah, her predecessor, died at five from cancer. All of my horse show clients felt as if Hannah was their dog too. After I had to put her down, they got together and presented me with a gift certificate to pick out a puppy of my choice from the same breeder … how cool was that? This is how Tarah came into my life.”
“As a little puppy she got in with some sheep and was herding them, showing early that she wanted a job. We didn’t go in that direction, but now my energetic Corgi gets to let off some steam by running agility. She is really good, a blazing fast dog with a lot of drive, with just one big problem: me! She is a lot better than I am, but stuck with me as a handler.”
“I thought about letting someone better run her but other people talked me out of it, including my trainer Shannon Miller at Jump Start Dog Sports, who assured me “She’s yours. Enjoy her! Tarah doesn’t know you don’t do it right, she just has fun.” Although when I really screw she is quick to tell me off, spinning and barking until I get my act together!”
“Tarah is definitely driven. While most others are getting their dogs a bit amped up before their run, I’m trying to keep mine settled down so she doesn’t break the start line — a hard thing for her not to do.”
“This one is definitely an alpha female: bossy! My other two females were much more laid back overall. Like all other Corgi owners with their dogs, however, I love her to death.”
Easy to see why, Barbara! She is completely Corgi Powered!
