Franklin Looney’s 2013 New Year’s resolutions were rolling in more stinky things, scoring more treats and hiding his ears better. He had no way of knowing that by the time Fall rolled around, he’d have a book published and be on his way to Corgi Nation stardom.
You see, Franklin has an uncanny ability to hide, somewhat like Waldo in the Where’s Waldo books. But this Pembroke Welsh Corgi does Waldo one better. He needs no crowds to obscure himself; instead he uses trees, sofas, piles of leaves, rocks, pillows, driftwood and sundry objects to tuck his body (and most of his head) nearly completely away. Camera shy? Hardly. For Franklin Looney, hiding while being photographed is a form of play. He’s well aware of what he’s doing, needs little prompt to practice his art, and best of all he has a heck of a time doing it!
(Which explains the ear hiding resolution).
“Every morning on our walks, when it was time to head home Franklin
would “disappear” explains Melissa Looney. “He seemed to think if he hid from me he wouldn’t have
to go home. People
often ask me how I got Franklin to pose in such weird places;
honestly, in many cases he chose the spot himself! None of the images
are Photoshopped, though sometimes he did get a little direction from
Mom.”
“I
began posting these photos on my facebook page for friends to enjoy,
and before I knew it we had quite a following. I had no idea one little
Corgi’s antics would become so popular and bring such joy to people
around the world.”
“My friend Anthony Helton of Purple Collar Pet Photography joined forces with me to create and publish a photo book of Franklin’s antics” recalls Melissa. “The idea behind Where’s Franklin came from Franklin himself.” Anthony’s work was featured on The Daily Corgi in early 2012.
“Because he was a recipient of Corgi Nation’s generosity as a CorgiPals client last year, Franklin was excited by the prospect of “pawing it forward” by donating sales of Where’s Franklin to CorgiPals. The response so far has blown us away, to the tune of $953.35 for our friends at CorgiPals! His book is on coffee tables in 48 of the 50 states and has made its way to admirers in eight countries.”
Friends and fans are trying to get Franklin on the Ellen Show. (They’d be crazy pass on him). His facebook page has more than 5,000 followers and satisfied readers from nearly all fifty states. Where’s Franklin is simply a modern day masterwork.
Get your own copy of the book HERE. (Eat your heart out, Waldo).
Melissa has created a Franklin’s Friends photo album on his facebook page, featuring the dogs and cats (and donkeys)
who are enjoying his book. If you’d like to add a photo of your furry
friend trying to find Franklin, send it to Melissa at franklinthecorgi@gmail.com, or post it on the Where’s Franklin facebook page, or send it to her via direct message from the page.
Corgi On, Franklin!
