(Ahhh, nothing like a Corgi smile, is there?)
Steve writes “Only a short part of our lives is in sadness. Many, many years of joy came from our boy Arlo.”
“He always was the consummate greeter and meeter, and wanted everyone to feel welcome – and of course, reply with treats.”
Arlo’s Dogster page is at http://www.dogster.com/dogs/142087. He kept a diary there, dispensing bon mots like “Ya can’t lick what ya can’t reach. Fuggetaboutit, kid. Life is like a bowl of cherries. Beg for some. Even if you don’t like ’em.”
So he was maybe a little bit of a wiseguy. What Corgi isn’t?
His family had a whole range of nicknames for Arlo: “Darlo, Carlo, Barkalounger, Sir Barksalot, Lolo, LoBelly, LoShine, Snausage Tater, LoLife, LoRent, Corgo The Magnificent, Peanut, Pesty Destructo, Snoof, Poopsie, The Floorgie, Senor Lobo, Bratty DaPenz, Senor Fluffybunz.”
(LOVE nicknames.)
Notably, he possessed advanced talents in shredding. Arlo’s years of experience landed him squarely in the Master Class category.
Arlo’s motto? “When in doubt, BARK!”
That just about sums it up!

Until now, the Daily Corgi has never done a post about a Corgi who has moved on. Truth be told, I post today with a mix of real sadness and affection. All of the dogs I “meet” through the blog become very special to me, and a member of The Daily Corgi community.
All the love in the world won’t save our dogs from the one thing that we’d change, if we could:
They just don’t live long enough.
Knowing that’s true, we love them stronger, longer and more deeply while we can.
When an animal companion has changed your life, made it better in so many ways, enriched your experience of love and lit your days from within, their spirit lives on forever.
Fare thee well, handsome Arlo! Thank you for making the world a better, more joyful place, simply by being you.
Wonderful you.

That was a beautiful tribute to Arlo! Maybe he's shedding all over the Rainbow Bridge with my Libby, who was also 14 when she left us. She had the same coloring as Arlo and was also a Master Shedder! Until we meet again…

I'm so sorry for your loss, Arlo's family, and know you can take joy in many happy memories. I love this quote I found in a book by Dean Koontz, "Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware it comes with an unbearable price."
