Meet Tuff of Texas!

He might look like a tough guy with that scar on his boyish face, but two year-old Tuff has a tender heart. He lost an eye to a car accident a month ago and proceeded to win over the shelter staff with his affection. They “hid him” in the medical kennels for nearly a month before his transfer to foster care, and current foster Mom Jessica H. says he’s a trooper with the biggest heart and personality she’s ever seen in a dog.

Fully house trained, Tuff gets along great with other pups. Cats they’re not so sure about, since he hasn’t had the chance to interact with any while he’s been in Jessica’s care. “I sort of picture him going to maybe an older or single woman who can make him the center of attention and love of her life, but he would give his unconditional love to anyone who will give him theirs” she writes. “He ADORES laying in a lap for lots of snuggle time and will wait for you to give him the ‘signal’ to jump on the couch beside you; you just pat the spot next to you and he’ll hop right up! Tuff is very well mannered.”

This sweetheart’s adoption fee is waived because he is heart worm positive, so that the new owner may instead use those funds toward heart worm treatment. Tuff is currently on the “slow kill” method of treatment, meaning he receives a monthly heart worm preventative pill as any other dog would (and should!), which will gradually kill off the adult heart worms and prevent them from reproducing, meanwhile cycling the dead worms out of his system. It is a method that has been proven highly effective and which causes the least amount of pain and discomfort in a canine. It’s also the most budget friendly!

Transport is a possibility for adopters willing to help pay for gas within Texas and Louisiana, as well as Oklahoma, Southwest Missouri, and parts of Arkansas. Other states are a possibility. It would also be a huge help if adopters are able to meet and cover a portion of the journey.

Helloooo Buckshot of Virginia!

Three year-old Buckshot is an adorable Jack Russell Terrier/Corgi mix with a little half nub and a high energy level. He listens really well and knows how to sit up on his bum when he wants attention or a walk. He’s three years old, was recently neutered and is in great health, testing negative for heart worm and Lyme disease. Buckshot just had a benign lump removed two weeks ago, and he’s already healing fantastically.

Local veterinarians pitched in, reducing the fee for his procedures. They said they felt bad for Buckshot, that he was so sweet and they wanted to help him out. If you would like to donate to the ChipIn fund covering the cost of his surgeries, your help will be appreciated … click HERE!

His foster family says this handsome boy would really thrive in an only dog home or an active, multi-dog household, somewhere he can exercise his excess energy. Buckshot is crate trained, loves car rides and is very affectionate.
