The Blue Ribbon Blogger series returns today with the spotlight on Kelly S., who writes about life with her Pembroke Gibson (the first ever Daily Corgi Dog of the Day!) at Corgi Butts.
Kelly, can you tell us when and why you began blogging about Gibson at Corgi Butts?
I started blogging about Gibson before we even picked him up! This was over at mycorgi.com in August of 2008. I just wanted to share my excitement about getting a puppy with the Corgi community, and it snowballed from there. I was reading a few “real” Corgi blogs and wanted to start my own “real” one, so Corgi Butts was born in October of 2008! I kept it up to connect with other Corgi owners and to chronicle my experiences with raising a puppy.
Do you blog for the same reasons today?
Sort of, but it has definitely evolved since then! In fact, Gibson is often in the shadows of another star of the blog, my daughter Hadley. I still talk about Gibson and share things Corgi/dog related to stay on topic.
How much work is the blog?
As much work as you put into it! I obviously haven’t been doing much with it lately, so it’s been no work at all! LOL. When I was really motivated, I’d try to write a post every other day or at least a few times a week, and each post would take an hour or so to put together.
How has Corgi Butts changed since you began?
Well, I think it’s more about my life and not just about Gibson. Which is natural, I think. I had a baby in October, so she has occupied most of my thoughts. Plus, after four years there are fewer new things happening to Gibson. I think I’ve covered almost all of his silly quirks :-).
What do you like best about blogging in general and your blog in particular?
I love sharing and being part of a community. I’ve met so many new friends just from writing my blog and reading theirs. I also really enjoy putting together my yearly calendar contests. I think people really get excited about it and that makes me feel like I’m part of something special.
What do you like least about blogging?
Ummm … when people don’t comment. Seriously though, it’s such a bummer when you spend so much time coming up with a creative post and then it gets no feedback. Makes it hard to find motivation to write another post.
(Ed.: Tell me about it!)
Where do you see your blog in a year?
Hopefully I’ll be back in the swing of things. I’d love to update the look of my blog to reflect that it is not just about Gibson anymore. I want to share about him, but also about his baby sister, my house, cooking and other life events. We’ll see how that goes.
Thanks for sharing a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Corgi Butts with us, Kelly!
