Today’s star is Odie, representing for The Daily Corgi’s home state of Massachusetts. Way to go — Beantown Corgi in the house! In a word, Odie is all kinds of AWESOME.
… so awesome, in fact, that Hoshi the cat has a crush on him. She’s lovestruck.
Who can blame her? He’s too busy admiring his Mom to notice, though.
Odie, blind in one eye, is a rescue who’s come a long way since his Mom Kimberly H. adopted him five years ago, when he was six. Although he had no outward signs of abuse, he was neglected and had some medical issues making his life uncomfortable. “When I first got him, he was very reserved and not bold at all” says Kim. “Each new step — using the stairs, getting on the couch, getting on the bed, enjoying his toys, barking, frapping — took MONTHS to develop. Odie is pretty bold and comfortable now …
… but he always seems to know when I have that camera and opens his eyes!”
“Odie joined the family after his rescued feline “sisters”, who made sure he developed a healthy respect for their rights and privileges. Sometimes I get to watch cross-species play; it’s better than TV!”
Because he’s such a big fan of humans — especially young ones — Odie relishes his daily walks in the park, where he gets plenty of attention. “When he sees a kid, his ears go flat back and his butt and tail nub wiggle in an excited greeting. He doesn’t have much use for other dogs, especially puppies, because they take human attention away from him. People often ask if he’s young or a puppy and are always surprised when I tell them he’s nine!”
“Odie spends his time nested on the sofa or curled at my feet when I’m at the computer. When I start making any getting-ready-to-leave-the-house movements, a look of dread overtakes him and he often tries to fling himself out the front door with me.”
“He loves car rides (of course), cocktail parties, book group at my friends’ homes, and days at my office. His hobbies include the tug game, which puts him into a state of ecstasy, and licking my significant other’s feet at great length. Odie’s favorite toys are soft and stuffed, and anything tuggable.”
Odie is simply GREAT, and greatly loved.
