Meet Buckaroo Banzai. This very day he’s on his way to the vet’s to get The Big Snip. (shhhhh!)
This scamp is following in his big “brother” Oliver Barkwell’s steps. Oliver was a Dog of the Day on The Daily Corgi last year.
The ‘rents Erin and Sam write that Bucky (all four pounds of him) will run after Oliver and chase his big ol’ 23 pounds all around the house. “Oliver is sweet with him, but if Buckaroo gets rowdy (and he does!) and starts barking and growling, Ollie will put him in his place.”
“Although they get along pretty well, we’re sure Buckaroo is often quite annoying to Oliver. They spend a lot of their time play fighting and stealing toys from each other, so the rare moment that Bucky and Oliver decided to sleep on the couch together was precious — and photo-worthy! Buckaroo is two months old now and Oliver is about a year-and-a-half. Last year about this time Oliver was three months old and just a bit bigger than Buckaroo, so it’s interesting to see the contrast in their sizes. I can’t believe Ollie was ever as small as Bucky is!”
“Things this time around have been a LOT easier. We had a lot of “trial and error” with Ollie, but Buckaroo is getting the hang of things very quickly. He’s had some accidents, and he still has little puppy needle teeth that need to chew on EVERYTHING. I forgot Oliver went through that too. We distract his hand-nips with toys and he seems pretty happy with that. Bucky listens and he’s smart, just like all Corgis! “
“He still sleeps all the time and always finds a crazy Corgi position to sleep in. Sometimes he sleeps under the couch with just his head popping out.”
“Sometimes he’ll sit under the couch and wait for one of us or Oliver to walk by, then springs out to surprise us! Getting pictures of him in action is super difficult, he’s fast and very squirmy. Thankfully he takes lots of really cute naps so I can capture photos of him then.”
“When Bucky got his first bath, it was a cold night. I decided he needed a little “blanket” to keep him warm while he dried, and ended up using a washcloth instead. He rolled over and posed with his paws on the cloth and it was too precious not to capture on camera!”
“I think it’s easier to be a Corgi parent after the first one. We know they like to chew, that they need to be entertained, and that they’ve very clever. I hope Oliver and Bucky become best friends!”
“We love love LOVE our Corgi crew! We’re ridiculously addicted to the breed. I even have a Corgi sticker on my car now to let everyone know I’m obsessed. They’re the best dogs ever. (My husband said I’m not allowed to get another one for five years, though).”
